Does anyone know if the biosand filter works when the water being filtered is treated in any form with chemicals? Do the chemicals kill the biological layer? Does the water have to be raw for the filter to work?
I know that chlorinated water should not be used as this can damage the biological layer. Otherwise there is evidence that sand filters remove differnt chemicals and heavy metals effectively, presumably without affecting the performance of the biological layer.
